Summary:
We seek an Associate Attorney to join our team at the Law Office of Benjamin Kanani, APC to perform all aspects of family law matters ranging from basic discovery to long cause trials and court appearances.
Associate will work directly under Benjamin Kanani and, depending on experience and training, will being handling cases, drafting pleadings and motions, appearing in court regularly, and interacting with clients and opposing counsel, potentially from the start.
Some remote work possible, but position is not a work-from-home position, and in-person office attendance is generally required.
Some prior family law experience as well as genuine interest/comfort with the field required, though additional training will be provided as needed depending on level of experience.
Responsibilities:
Collecting, maintaining, and organizing evidence for all aspects of family law litigation (i.
e.
trials, motions, mediations, etc.
).
Draft legal pleadings and forms, including complaints, declarations, discovery requests, responses, and memorandums.
Prepare for and appear at trial and contested hearings (when ready, depending on experience).
Regularly interact with opposing counsel and clients.
Oversee and work with law clerk assisting with various cases.
Qualifications:
Proof of CA bar passage and graduation from an ABA accredited law school.
1-3 years' experience in a law office, firm or solo practice.
Minimum 1 year experience practicing family law.
Proof of full vaccination against COVID-19 (at least 2 doses).
Authorization to work in the U.
S.
A valid California Class C driver's license or the ability to utilize an alternative method of transportation when needed to carry out job-related essential functions.
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Ability to interact with potentially emotional individual clients.
Ability to speak Spanish is a plus, but not required.
